Description

We have openings for co-ops at GE Aviation in the Manhattan University
Development Center starting July 2010. Our engineering students work
along side experienced GE engineers. They are trained to use the latest
state of the art engineering tools necessary to complete their assigned
tasks. The Manhattan site is currently focused on software verification
of GE Aviation's Flight Management Systems and database tools through
manual and automated test procedures.

Description

The Department of Computing and Information Sciences at Kansas State University is seeking applications for a Staff Assistant position. This is a part-time position estimated at 20 hours per week. The successful applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in Finance (or a related field) and experience in the areas of grant administration, accounting and human resources.

Responsibilities will include processing paperwork in support of the grant administration, graduate program coordination, and human resources functions for the department under direct supervision of the Business Manager. Preparing recruitment, personnel appointments and funding paperwork. Developing budget proposals in compliance with KSU PreAward Services and sponsor guidelines. Assisting in the development of financial accounting reports as required by sponsors and the KSU Sponsored Projects office. Reviewing incoming graduate applications and ensuring that the department remains in full compliance with the graduate school’s policies and procedures. Processing departmental accounting paperwork. Providing back-up support to the front office staff as needed by answering the main phone line for the department and responding to visitors. This position is a 9-month temporary appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon continued funding.

Description

The Department of Computing and Information Sciences at Kansas State University seeks applications for a Research Associate position. The successful applicant must have Ph.D. degree in computer science with two to four years research specialization in programming-language semantics, typing systems, program verification, and program security. It is also preferred that the applicant possess experience in a range of programming languages and operating systems;
experience with HTML, Perl, PhP, Javascript, and Python; background in abstract interpretation and topology; and teaching and supervising experience. The Computing and Information Sciences department has an immediate opening for a Student System Administrator. This is a part-time position open to K-State students.

This position will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of departmental servers and workstations, including installation and configuration of systems applications, management of enterprise-wide software deployment, user account management, and end-user support. Experience with administration of Windows server platforms and enterprise Windows workstation management is preferred but not necessary. Strong logic and troubleshooting, as well as communication skills are very important for this position.

BACKGROUND:

The Bioinformatics Center at the Kansas State University was established in 2001 under the direction of Dr. Susan J. Brown. The primary goal of the center is to provide state-of-the-art bioinformatics support to biological researchers at KSU. It also serves as an active site for bioinformatics research and development in the state of Kansas.

RESPONSIBILITY:

The ideal candidate will assist in developing web-interfaces for bioinformatics and scientific computing research projects. The candidate will work with the bioinformatics specialist to analyze the project requirements and visualize the analyses on the web-interface.

REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate should have solid knowledge and working experience of web databases and application development. The highly qualified candidate must possess

    Necessary Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Java, C/C++, or C#
  • CIS 200 and one of CIS 208 or CIS 300, or equivalent coursework and experience
  • Ability to work 10-20 hours per week during the regular academic year

    Ideal Qualifications

  • One of CIS 301 (Logical Foundations of Programming), CIS 520 (Operating Systems), or equivalent coursework or background
  • One of Stat 510 (Introduction to Probability and Statistics) or Math 510 (Discrete Mathematics)
  • Experience with any of the following is a plus:
  • An integrated development environment (IDE) such as Eclipse or Visual C++/C#

    Our computing environment comprises a number of high-end AMD Opteron, Pentium 4 Xeon, Sparc, PowerPC G4 workstations and Beowulf cluster nodes, running Linux (especially Gentoo, Ubuntu, and OpenSUSE), Windows Vista, Solaris, Mac OS 10 (10.3 Panther, 10.4 Tiger, and 10.5 Leopard).

    Software components of our environment include IBM Eclipse, MS Visual Studio 2008, Borland JBuilder, Lisp, Scheme; graphics packages such as Alias|Wavefront Maya and Blender and libraries such as OpenGL and OGRE; various expert system shells and scripting languages; and a vast array of visualization and computational mathematics packages (MATLAB, Mathematica, SAS, SPSS, NeuroSolutions, etc.).

    Our systems are connected by high-speed networks to the computing facilities of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), the leading-edge site for the National Computational Science Alliance.

    Position Description:

    The Student Webmaster is responsible for the important and mission-critical web presence of the Department of Computing and Information Sciences. The Student Webmaster creates and maintains the department's website, complete with departmental forms, information on upcoming events, and links, implementing new features as needed. Starting pay is $9.00/hr.

    General Responsibilities:

    * Collect and manage information from all department programs.

    * Prepare, create, design, code, and upload files for website.

    * Ensure correct spelling, grammatical usage, punctuation and accuracy of information on the website.

    * Keep webpages updated continuously, and ensure accuracy of links.

    * Ensure that department website is user-friendly, and cross-platform/cross-browser compatible.

    * Maintain information on, and ensure website sensitivity to issues of ADA compliance.

    * Act as department consultant on web-related issues.

    * Attend departmental web committee meetings.

    * Other duties, as assigned.

    Special Skills:

    * Experience designing, creating, and implementing websites and event-specific webpages.

    * A demonstrated understanding of advanced computer skills and common web languages and applications.

    * Experience with web programming and proficiency in HTML, PHP, Javascript, MYSQL, and CSS are required.

    * Experience with Drupal or other CMS is preferred.

    * Experience with relational databases or SQL is a plus.
